Neil’s life changed profoundly when, at the age of five, he drowned in a hot springs in Central Montana, resulting in a dramatic Near-Death-Experience (NDE). He subsequently became a conference speaker on this subject, a journal article writer, and a researcher on NDEs.
Neil enjoyed a long career in space and advanced communications research in corporate, government, and academic venues for over 40 years. From 1990 to 2008 he directed a space research center at the School of Engineering and Applied Science at George Washington University. For his humanitarian efforts that included seminal research and development of the satellite-based global disaster communications system and network, and the global search and rescue system and network, both now operational, these global systems are credited with saving many thousands of lives every year. Thus he was nominated in 1995 for the Nobel Peace Prize.
As Scholar-in-Residence, his goal is to conduct research, assist faculty and students with their research, and support students as they complete their Culminating Projects. He is also keenly interested in the field of transpersonal psychology. Neil completed a Ph.D. at Sofia University (California) in this transformational discipline. His dissertation is titled: The Effects of Near-death Experiences on Religious and Spiritual Beliefs. He likes to teach transpersonal approaches in this dynamic field of psychology.
