Dr. Karaam Ellis is an educator, inspirational speaker, author, artist and founder of The Temple of Human Spirituality, The KaLu Center, KaLu Global Curriculum Initiative and The KaLu Kafe. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Ellis grew up around music, inspirational conversations, good food and general concern for the communities he was reared in. His parents, the late Karla Jefferson Ellis and Marvin Ellis, instilled principles of respect, honor, generosity and family in Dr. Ellis from birth. This would shape his path and purpose as he would become a student of his environment.
This led to Dr. Ellis forgoing a traditional education after high school for higher spiritual development, acquiring a doctorate in the Comparative Study of Religions. This path was unique in that he didn’t sit in a classroom and learn about religion from a book perspective but he actually walked within the various faiths which gave him a greater understanding of the connections that human had to their various belief systems as well as higher truths about religion in general. This allowed Dr. Ellis to be able to have enlightening conversations with humans from all walks of life, respecting their views while generously sharing insight that has the potential to unite all of humanity.
This led to the establishment of The Temple of Human Spirituality in 2011 and with it, The Enclosed Garden Project which developed over a period of 10 years and is now ready to be implemented for the benefit of humanity. Dr. Ellis’ journey took him from Chicago to Cincinnati, OH, on down to Atlanta, GA, Montgomery, AL back to Macon, GA, Eatonton, Atlanta, GA, Milledgeville, GA and eventually to Hampton Roads, where he has settled with his family since 2012.
Dr. Ellis has lectured on human inspiration, spirituality and religious studies at many universities such as University of Cincinnati, Alabama State, Tuskegee Institute, Clark-Atlanta University, Morris Brown College, Morehouse Interdenominational Theological Seminary, Georgia State University, Georgia College and State University and Norfolk State University. His unique insight into the human spectrum is what fuels his work which speaks to the overall purpose of his ministry, “the creation of sacred spaces for humanity to heal”.
Dr. Ellis is the author of over 42 books on inspiration, education and for youth. His up and coming food establishment, The KaLu Kafe, which is operated by his family, speaks to his purpose by offering common food made healthier for the benefit of humanity. Dr. Ellis’ journey continues and as a student of the universe, he looks for lessons of growth and engagement daily.
